ABC NewsMail - Afternoon Edition

Good afternoon. Here's what's happening now:

  • In developing news, a man has been shot dead in Picton, south-west of Sydney, and police are searching for the gunman. The situation is changing with reports a second body has been found. Police have ruled out terrorism and say it is a targeted attack

  • There has been a lot of political reaction to Tony Abbott's comments calling for a "reformation" in Islam. On radio, Malcolm Turnbull said we must not "seek to tag all Muslims with responsibility for the crimes of a few" while Bill Shorten called on the PM to "pull Tony Abbott into line"

  • In late breaking news, the Bitcoin plot has thickened. The Sydney home of its suspected founder, Doctor Craig Steven Wright, has been raided by the AFP over ATO search warrants. He was named in some trade publications as the digital currency's inventor this morning

This ABC Science feature is proving popular. It seeks to answer the questions: What is El Nino and why does it matter?

Here's what's coming up tonight:

  • 5:00pm AEDT: Lucy Turnbull will deliver the key address at the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Mobile-ising Women in Business seminar

  • 6:00pm AEDT: The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards begin in Sydney. Cate Blanchett will be there and will be honoured with the Longford Lyell Award

  • 7:30pm: Harrison Ford will talk to Leigh Sales on the 7.30 program because ... Star Wars

  • 11:00pm AEDT: This is the time French foreign minister Laurent Fabius said he would deliver a draft of the global deal to fight climate change in Paris
