Good afternoon. Here's what's happening now:

The Drum has a piece by Jeff Sparrow that talks about Tony Abbott's current motivations and why he's calling for reform in Islam. Sparrow writes that "the institution he's really keen to change is the Liberal Party - and the reform he wants begins at the top".

Here's what's coming up tonight:

  • 7:30pm: Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett will be on 7.30 ahead of tomorrow's COAG meeting

  • 10:00pm: In Paris, negotiations over action on climate change are expected to produce another draft deal. The vote on the final version will be on Friday

  • 11:00pm: Volkswagen executives are expected to release findings of an internal probe into its emissions cheating scandal at a press conference in Wolfsburg, Germany

  • 11:00pm: The Nobel Peace Prize ceremony gets underway in Norway. Later, in Stockholm, Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf will present the other prizes

  • 12:00am: Nominations for the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards will be announced. The awards ceremony is on January 10
