ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • The Pope has questioned Donald Trump's Christianity over his suggestion a border wall should be built to keep immigrants out. Here's the quote that is making news now: "Anyone, whoever he is, who only wants to build walls and not bridges is not a Christian"

  • There's something going on with $100 notes. An experts says: "The RBA is is printing a lot more $100 notes than are out there, so one must speculate they're either being hoarded by people to avoid paying tax or by criminals to store wealth"

  • You might have heard about a Brexit - the possible departure of Britain from the EU. In an election promise, the Conservatives pledged to hold a referendum on that question and as part of that, PM David Cameron said he'd seek reform around how the EU rules applied to the UK. Enter today's talks in Brussels. Mr Cameron is pushing hard for that reform and the talks are expected to go through the night. We'll hear from correspondent Lisa Millar with the outcome

Could mosquitos overcome their bad reputation? Scientists have created a "super-infected" mosquito to help fight viruses such as dengue fever and Zika. When the mosquitos were infected with two types of a certain bacterium, they were found to be more effective at blocking dengue

Here's what's coming up:

  • 10:45am AEDT: We're expecting to hear from Malcolm Turnbull and NZ Prime Minister John Key who are meeting in Sydney

  • 5:00pm AEDT: NSW Liberal Party pre-selection for the federal election closes. Keep an eye on Bronwyn Bishop's seat of MacKellar
