  • The Prime Minister is preparing to hand down the eighth Closing the Gap report card, which is expected to show limited progress in most of the six target areas. Some Indigenous leaders are calling for the commitments to be scrapped

  • Household energy prices increased by 61 per cent in six years despite an overall drop in energy use. One energy analyst said the biggest cost impact was not from the carbon tax, but from companies spending on infrastructure they don't need

  • German authorities are investigating how two commuter trains fitted with automatic braking systems collided head on in southern Germany, killing at least 10. Rescue teams are still searching for one missing person
