  • Federal ministers say the idea of a GST hike has been abandoned. ABC political reporter Jane Norman says the Government's tax reform plan B is likely to include a "scaling back of superannuation tax concessions" to save billions needed to "deliver income tax cuts to low and middle income earners"

  • A candidate from further back in the Republican pack took down establishment favourite Marco Rubio in the latest debate. Watch as Chris Christie calls Rubio out for "memorised 25-second answers". Commentators say Rubio wilted when the candidates pressed him on questions over his political experience

  • The US ambassador to the UN says North Korea's rocket launch is a "grave threat to international peace and security" and says "no-one is fooled by its 'peaceful Earth observation' nonsense". The UN Security Council condemned the launch and says it will respond with sanctions
