ABC NewsMail - Afternoon Edition

Good afternoon. Here's what's happening now:

  • The Government's backpacker tax proposal started at 32.5 per cent, then was revised down to 19pc. Labor and Jacqui Lambie wanted it to go lower. The Coalition has now settled on a rate of 15 per cent

  • The 1974 disappearance of Barbara McCulkin and her daughters, Vicki and Leanne, has been one of Brisbane's most mysterious cases. Today, Garry Dubois, 69, was found guilty of killing them

  • The family of former Parramatta Eels player Chad Robinson has appealed for help to find him, saying they're concerned for his welfare. The father of three has not been seen since Saturday night

When Julian Scharf got his hearing back, he threw a party for his new ears. "We just played music all night — my cousins, and my wife, and my mum, and my friends danced all night."

Here's what's coming up:

  • 6:15pm AEDT: The Newcombe Medal winner will be revealed at the Australian Tennis Awards

  • 7:30pm AEDT: In the NBL, the Sydney Kings take on the Adelaide 36ers
