'Sneering' Rolf Harris 'assaulted mother and daughter' in DIY store

A mother and daughter from NSW have told the Rolf Harris trial the entertainer indecently assaulted them both during a promotional event at a hardware store.

The daughter said she was around 16 years old when Harris touched her breasts at the event in Newcastle in 1991.

Her mother said Harris then "rubbed his groin" against her, prompting her to call him "a disgusting creature".

No one blameless as Thailand faces civil unrest

While the current coup in Thailand can still be described as bloodless, the risk of an explosion of serious civil unrest is now extreme.

Both political sides are to blame for this outcome. The Shinawatra-backed Pheu Thai party has remained beholden to the tainted influence of the exiled former prime minister Thaksin. Its opponents, rather than respecting voters, have continued to rely on the military for forced and false victories.

Nathan Tinkler relinquishes control of Newcastle Knights

Tinkler's Hunter Sports Group has announced this afternoon that it will have no further role at the club.

It had been under pressure to hand back control after coming under financial difficulties.

The NRL is now working to establish a new ownership structure at the club.
