ABS employee made $60k from $7m insider trading scam, court hears

A 24-year-old Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) employee has been extradited to Victoria to face charges over an alleged $7 million insider trading scam.

Christopher Russell Hill is accused of sharing unpublished ABS data with friend Lukas Kamay, an NAB employee in Melbourne, to predict movements in the Australian dollar.

The charges laid by ASIC and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) include insider trading, money laundering and abuse of public office.

Light plane crashes in yard of Blue Mountains house

A light plane has crashed near houses at Lawson in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, injuring three people.

Witnesses have described seeing a light plane spiral out of control before it deployed a parachute and made a "soft" landing.

An Ambulance New South Wales spokeswoman says three people suffered minor injuries in the crash.
