Pair accused of insider trading 'used ABS data in $7m forex scam'

Two men in their twenties who worked at the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the National Australia Bank have been charged with insider trading on foreign currency markets.

Police allege the NAB employee used unpublished unemployment, retail and trade data obtained through the ABS office to "predict the fluctuations in the Australian dollar".

Some $7 million in assets have been seized by officers who were alerted to "suspicious activity" on the foreign exchange market dating back to August last year.
