Man arrested after bomb squad called to Monash Freeway

A man has been arrested after the bomb squad was called to a major incident on Melbourne's Monash Freeway this morning.

Police put an exclusion zone around the scene at Glen Iris after what the ABC understands was a police chase involving a prime mover travelling on the wrong side of the freeway.

Police have now declared the scene safe, but the aftermath of the incident is expected to cause traffic delays for the rest of the peak morning period.

China and Russia sign '$400 billion' gas deal

China and Russia have signed a monumental, multi-decade gas supply contract, Chinese state energy giant CNPC said, with reports saying the deal could be worth as much as $400 billion.

The contract signatures came after years of negotiations and were witnessed by Chinese president Xi Jinping and visiting Russian leader Vladimir Putin, CNPC said in a statement.

"This is another major milestone achievement in China-Russia energy strategic cooperation," it said, adding it was "facilitated and greatly supported personally by the leaders of China and Russia".
