The move, which would satisfy the only condition laid down by the Palmer United Party for its crucial support to the repeal bill, follows talks between PUP leader Clive Palmer and Prime Minister Tony Abbott this morning. Environment Minister Greg Hunt has told Parliament the Government will note Mr Palmer's considerations and "go even further and to enshrine in legislation guarantees over and above what we already have". Given Palmer's ETS isn't linked to the carbon tax, and that the Government is freed from the terrible Direct Action policy, Tony Abbott could chalk this up as something of a win. But he remains exposed for failing to convince the public of his other tough budget measures, and into that gap steps the masked figure of Palmer who could be wielding a hidden dagger or two.
