Iran's supreme leader warns against US intervention in Iraq

Iran's supreme leader has condemned US intervention in Iraq, accusing Washington of seeking control.

The statement by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was the clearest statement of opposition to a US plan to dispatch up to 300 military advisers in response to pleas from the Iraqi government.

It also runs counter to speculation that old enemies Washington and Tehran might cooperate to defend their mutual ally in Baghdad.

Mr Kerry's comments come as Sunni insurgents consolidate positions in the north and west of the country.

The Baden-Clay murder trial will today head to Kholo Creek Bridge at Anstead in Brisbane's west, where Allison Baden-Clay's body was found in April 2012.

Gerard Baden-Clay, 43, a former real estate agent, has pleaded not guilty in the Supreme Court to killing his wife.

The body of the mother of three was found on a creek bank under the bridge, about 10 kilometres from the couple's Brookfield home.
