Tax increases an option if budget stalls: Cormann

The Federal Government has ramped up its warnings over the budget threatening higher taxes if its savings measures are blocked by the Senate.

According to figures released by the Government, Labor and the Greens are opposing $20 billion worth of savings measures.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann said if the Senate blocks its proposed spending cuts, the Government's "only alternative" would be to increase taxes.
