Britain raises terrorism threat level to 'severe'

Britain has raised its terrorism threat level to "severe", the second highest level, in response to possible attacks being planned in Syria and Iraq.

British prime minister David Cameron said increased security measures were needed in wake of the recent murder of United States journalist James Foley by a suspected British national.

"We have all been shocked and sickened by the barbaric murder of American journalist James Foley, and by the voice of what increasingly seems to have been a British terrorist recorded on that video," Mr Cameron said.
