ABC NewsMail - Afternoon Edition

Good afternoon. Here's what's happening now:

  • Senator Sam Dastyari has apologised for asking a company with links to the Chinese Government to pay a $1,670.82 bill incurred by his office. "I made a mistake and I am sorry," he said

  • A woman collecting shells on the most popular part of Broome's Cable Beach has discovered the footprints of a Tyrannosaurus-type dinosaur. It's believed the footprints had not been discovered previously because they were covered by sand

  • More stories have emerged of psychiatric side effects experienced by young children using the common asthma drug Singulair, including fits of rage and suicidal thoughts

In the 1950s, Wittenoom's streets were literally paved with asbestos. Today, decades after the West Australian town was declared too dangerous to live in, three people refuse to leave.

Here's what's coming up:

  • 6:00pm AEST: Canberra Raiders full-back Jack Wighton will face a judiciary hearing over a shoulder charge. If found guilty, he could miss the finals

  • 6:30pm AEST: Dame Julie Andrews will walk the red carpet at the opening of My Fair Lady, a musical she is directing, at the Sydney Opera House

  • 8:00pm AEST: Foreign Correspondent investigates China's 'left-behind children', more than 60 million kids who are growing up without parents as they move to cities to find work

  • 11:00pm AEST: Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will present her agenda to Parliament, including the option of independence

  • 1:00am AEST Wednesday: US Open quarter-finals start
