  • There's tension within the Coalition over whether public money will be allocated to fund the "for" and "against" cases in a same-sex marriage plebiscite. PM Malcolm Turnbull says "any public funding, whatever the nature and terms of it may be, will be scrupulously equal" but Tasmanian Senator Eric Abetz wants the Government to allocate at least $10 million to each side

  • More than 1.8 million Muslims from around the world have gathered at Mount Arafat as the annual Hajj reaches its high point. They will spend the most important day of the pilgrimage in prayer and reading from the Koran

  • A moment of silence has been observed at Ground Zero in New York to mark 15 years since the 9/11 attacks

Katie Kelly has won gold for Australia in the PT5 triathlon at the Rio Paralympics. Kurt Fearnley scored bronze in the 5,000 metres T54
