ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • Taiwan's defence ministry says it is asking Google to blur satellite images showing what experts describe as new military installations on Itu Aba, the country's single holding in the disputed South China Sea

  • The most comprehensive genomic study of Indigenous Australians has found modern humans are descendants of a single wave of migrants who left Africa around 72,000 years ago. It also confirms modern Aboriginal Australians are the descendants of the first people to inhabit Australia

  • Have you completed the Census? It turns out 95 per cent of households have despite a "denial of service" attack on its website on Census night. The final deadline for online responses is tomorrow

It seems even Madame Tussauds is taking the whole Brangelina split seriously. The London arm of the wax museum chain revealed it had separated its wax figure replicas of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt after the Hollywood power couple announced their split.

Here's what's coming up:

  • 6:40am AEST: Australia's Paralympic team will arrive home from Rio

  • 7:10am AEST: Liberal senator Simon Birmingham will be on AM to discuss school funding

  • 9:00am AEST: The UN General Assembly general debate will begin and PM Malcolm Turnbull is set to give a national statement

  • 10:00am AEST: New Reserve Bank governor Philip Lowe will make his maiden appearance before Parliament's economics committee

  • 12:30pm AEST: Federal Liberal Party director Tony Nutt will address the National Press Club
