Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • Formal free trade agreement negotiations between Australia and the European Union are set to begin early next year, but a deal can only be negotiated once Britain formally leaves the EU

  • From one outspoken tennis star to another, John McEnroe has challenged Nick Kyrgios to quit professional tennis if his heart is not in it

  • German Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative Christian Democrats Union has fallen to third place in a state election behind the anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany party, exit polls show. The polls also showed if a national election were held next week, the AfD would win 12 per cent of the vote

Mother Teresa has been made a saint of the Roman Catholic Church, 19 years after her death. Hundreds of thousands of people from across the globe gathered in Rome to watch the much-anticipated canonisation.
