  • A 20-year-old surfer is in an induced coma after he was bitten by a bull shark at Ballina, in northern NSW. Locals are angry at delays in starting trials of shark deterrent technology.

  • Vandals have derailed a train at a station in north-east Melbourne overnight. Police say the offenders broke into and started the train, driving it forwards before crashing into carriages and fencing.
