ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • Far-left environmental protesters have clashed with police ahead of the UN Climate Summit in Paris, pelting them with bottles and candles left in tribute to the victims of the Paris attacks. There have been 208 arrests and French president Francois Hollande has condemned the protesters' "scandalous" behaviour

  • With two major climate demonstrations cancelled in the wake of terror attacks, thousands of people have left pairs of shoes at the Place de la Republique instead of marching. World leaders from the US, China, India and Russia are among those arriving in Paris today, tasked with reaching the first truly universal climate pact

  • The families of two Western Australian surfers missing in Mexico are preparing to travel to the country. There are unconfirmed reports that two bodies have been found in the burnt-out van that Dean Lucas and Adam Coleman were travelling in, but the families stressed they are still waiting for details to be confirmed

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have released rare photos of their baby daughter Charlotte

Here's what's coming up today:

  • 8.00am AEDT: Opposition Leader Bill Shorten will lay a wreath at the Bataclan Theatre in Paris. Malcolm Turnbull is also expected to lay a wreath at the Place de la Republique

  • 9.00am AEDT: A radicalisation conference will be held in Parramatta, Western Sydney, with speakers from Australian and international universities

  • 9.30am AEDT: Essendon Football Club is listed to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court to answer two WorkSafe charges related to the supplements scandal in 2011 and 2012

  • 10.00am AEDT: The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse continues in Melbourne

  • 10.00am AEDT: Federal Parliament meets for the final sitting week of the year but the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader are in Paris for climate talks

  • 11.00am AEDT: A public memorial will be held for All Blacks legend Jonah Lomu, who died last week after battling a kidney disorder

  • 6.00pm AEDT: Foreign ambassadors, politicians and United Nations representatives will come together for an event in Canberra, in a show of support for the UN climate summit

  • 8.00pm AEDT: The first leaders event will be held at the Paris climate summit
