  • At least 19 people have been injured, 77 houses destroyed and 82,600 hectares burnt in deadly fires that killed two people north of Adelaide. Bushfire and Natural Hazards Co-operative Research Centre boss Richard Thornton said it reflected a worrying trend of Australian fire seasons starting earlier and ending later

  • South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill has defied his Federal Labor colleagues and called for an increase in the GST. He says the increase is needed to help states pay for the rapidly growing cost of providing health care. "It gives us a fighting chance. At the moment we've got no chance," he told AM

  • Tina Arena was the toast of the ARIA awards last night calling the music industry out on ageism and sexism as she was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Perth band Tame Impala walked away with the most pointy prizes, five in total, including album of the year
