Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • The police raid in northern Paris yesterday stopped a terrorist group planning new attacks, according to the city's top prosecutor. The seven-hour standoff left at least two dead and eight under arrest, but suspected mastermind Abdelhamid Abaaoud was not among them.

  • Islamic State says it used a can of soft drink to bomb the Russian plane in Egypt. It has published a photo of the can and what appeared to be a detonator and switch.

  • Esperance is mourning the farmer and three backpackers killed by the bushfires still burning out of control near the town. ABC reporter Mark Bennett says the backpackers, two aged 31 and one aged 19, were caught in the flames after trying to rescue a horse.

  • 2.00pm AEDT: Bluescope Steel holds its annual general meeting in Sydney
