ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • The World Anti-Doping Agency says armed Russian government agents intimidated its officers and threatened them with expulsion as they tried to carry out drug tests on athletes. The report comes just two days before a decision will be made on whether Russian athletes can compete in Rio

  • US authorities have found the body of a two-year-old boy who was taken by an alligator at Walt Disney World resort in Florida

  • The World Health Organisation has reversed its previous warning that coffee could cause cancer saying there is no conclusive evidence of a carcinogenic effect. However, other scientific evidence presented by the organisation suggests drinking anything very hot - above about 65 degrees Celsius - probably does cause cancer of the oesophagus

A 2,000-year-old ball of butter has been unearthed from a peat bog by a turf cutter in Ireland. It weighs 10 kilograms, smells like cheese and is "theoretically" still edible. The bog butter may have been an offering to the gods and has been given to the National Museum for preservation

Here's what's coming up:

  • 10:30am AEST: Andrew William Lee is expected to make a bail application in the Victorian Supreme Court. He's accused of the one-punch murder of teen footballer Patrick Cronin at a Diamond Creek bar in April

  • 12:00pm AEST: Christopher Pyne and Penny Wong will front the Committee for Economic Development of Australia's election debate in Adelaide

  • 12:30pm AEST: Marise Payne and Stephen Conroy will take part in the National Defence Club federal election defence debate in Canberra:
