ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • Ten people have been killed in two explosions at Istanbul's main international airport, according to Turkey's Justice Minister. Broadcaster CNN Turk has said Turkish officials suspect suicide bombers were behind the attack, but there is no official confirmation yet

  • A former head of the New South Wales Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has said the criminal conviction of former state Labor minister Eddie Obeid strengthens the push for a federal corruption watchdog. David Ipp, who headed ICAC from 2009 to 2014, said "the idea that it's only politicians in New South Wales who behave corruptly is just silly."

  • Ikea is set to recall 29 million sets of its Malm chest of drawers in the US and Canada after six children were crushed to death when the chests tipped over

A safe and effective vaccine against the Zika virus is a step closer. Researchers say the results of a major study, published in the journal Nature, mean a Zika vaccine for humans "will likely be readily available". Human trials will start soon.

Here's what's coming up:

  • 9:30am AEST: Six men charged with planning a terrorist attack will face court in NSW accused of making hand-written plans which listed Garden Island naval base and the Australian Federal Police Headquarters as potential targets

  • 11:00am AEST: Victoria's police and paramedics will launch a campaign to have post-traumatic stress recognised as an occupational illness for the state's emergency services workers

  • 6:30pm AEST: The University of Melbourne is holding a live panel with Peta Credlin, Ben Hubbard, Barrie Cassidy, Ellen Whinnett and Andrea Carson
