  • The search continues for two men swept away in Tasmanian floodwaters. The Prime Minister and Opposition Leader will visit flood-affected areas in the state's north today. Meanwhile, residents evacuated from a Launceston suburb returned to their homes last night

  • Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova has been banned for two years after failing a drug test during this year's Australian Open. The former world number one announced on her Facebook page that she would appeal the decision

  • Singapore will cut off internet access to 100,000 government computers to protect against cyber-attacks and the spread of malware. Industry sources say it's a surprise move for one of world's most internet-savvy societies

Researchers hope the discovery of a 700,000-year-old Hobbit on an Indonesian island will shed new light on human evolution. The Australian-led researchers say the fossil could provide evidence of evolutionary reversal, where human bodies including the brain actually shrink.
