Former NSW premier Neville Wran dies

Neville Wran, a Labor icon who led New South Wales for a decade in the 1970s and 1980s, has died at the age of 87.

The former premier was suffering from dementia and died on Sunday evening with his family by his side.

This morning Prime Minister Tony Abbot described Mr Wran as "one of the most significant figures of his generation" and a man who "made his mark on NSW and Australia".

Tread warily in the real estate war of words

The good times of unfettered investment in property might be coming to an end but it may not be the nationwide bubble burst some are predicting.

So far, overheated property has been a feature of capital cities only. And even then it has been confined to Sydney and, to a lesser extent, Melbourne.

Padbury further delays revealing Oakajee backers

Padbury Mining has again delayed telling the stock exchange who will fund its plans to restart the stalled Oakajee port and rail project.

Padbury last week said it had secured $6.5 billion to build the iron ore export project in WA's Mid West, but it refused to name the investors.

It was placed into a trading halt because it would not name private equity investors it said would fund the deal.
