Thousands without power as Sydney cleans up after wild winds, heavy rain

Power crews are still working to restore electricity to thousands of New South Wales homes and businesses after a wild storm hit parts of the state overnight.

Supply has been restored over 10,000 properties in the Blue Mountains and Lithgow areas but around 3,000 customers remain without electricity.

Crews are continuing to restore power to around 6,000 properties in pockets across Sydney including Camperdown, Punchbowl, Heathcote and Kogarah.

Anthony O'Brien from Ausgrid said conditions this afternoon had made working in some locations difficult.

"Just when we're making headway we're receiving more reports as other wires are coming down after we started to see the wind pick up after lunch," he said.
