First person diagnosed with Ebola in US dies in hospital

The first person diagnosed with Ebola in the United States has died at a Dallas hospital, a hospital spokesman says.

Thomas Eric Duncan died after an 11-day fight with the virus. He became ill after arriving from the West African country of Liberia to visit family in September.

US health officials are monitoring dozens of people who may have come in contact with Mr Duncan, including about 10 people who are considered at high risk of contracting Ebola.

Meanwhile, five US airports will begin screening the temperatures of passengers arriving from West Africa in the hope of avoiding an outbreak of the deadly virus.
