Putin 'cooperative' in talks with Bishop on MH17 crash investigation

Russian president Vladimir Putin has responded cooperatively to Australia's request for investigators to be given further access to the Malaysia Airlines MH17 crash site in Ukraine, Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop says.

Ms Bishop has held a 25-minute "detailed discussion" with Mr Putin in which she says she expressed concerns about his handling of the disaster and requested he use his influence with rebels to allow investigators access to the site.

"He said that he would seek to respond to my request by asking the separatists to provide that access," she said.

She said Prime Minister Tony Abbott's threat earlier this week to "shirtfront" the Russian leader at next month's G20 summit in Brisbane was not raised.

Regulators ASX and ASIC do not have definitive rulings but the trend will particularly target businesses where families or founders have large share holdings in the business.

Shareholder activist Stephen Mayne says big companies will increasingly get strong protest votes against entrenched directors.
