PM renews Hizb ut-Tahrir criticism in wake of spokesman's comments

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has renewed his strong criticism of Islamic group Hizb ut-Tahrir after its spokesman refused to condemn the actions of Islamic State (IS) terrorists during a fiery interview on the ABC's Lateline program.

Wassim Doureihi was asked repeatedly by Lateline presenter Emma Alberici whether or not he supported the "murderous" campaign being waged by the IS extremists in Syria and Iraq and if he would condemn their tactics.

He instead deflected accusations of violence back on Western governments, including the United States and Australia.

Mr Abbott said Mr Wassim Doureihi's remarks confirmed his concerns about Hizb ut-Tahrir.
