ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • The move to disendorse Labor's candidate for the federal seat of Fremantle has been labelled "an absolute disgrace" by his union. Maritime Union official Chris Brown had failed to disclose two 1980s convictions - for the assault of a police officer and driving under the influence - during his pre-selection process

  • Consumer advocacy group Choice says Thermomix cooking appliances are responsible for 87 burn cases. The ABC understands 18 of those Thermomix users required several weeks of treatment in hospital burns units

  • The threat of an attack by dissident Northern Ireland militants on mainland Britain has been raised to "substantial" by Britain's MI5 intelligence agency. The last attack on the British mainland occurred in 2001

Mount Everest has been climbed by sherpas from the Nepali side for the first time in three years. Climbing on the world's tallest peak was halted after a deadly earthquake in 2015 and a fatal avalanche the year before

Here's what's coming up:

  • 8:15am AEST: Liberal Senator Arthur Sinodinos and shadow treasurer Chris Bowen are scheduled to appear on a Radio National panel

  • 9:45am AEST: The High Court is expected to decide whether the Queensland Director of Public Prosecutions can appeal against Gerard Baden-Clay's downgraded conviction from murder to manslaughter

  • 4:00pm AEST: The Western Australian budget will be handed down in State Parliament by Treasurer Mike Nahan
