ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • "I may have made mistakes but I did not commit any crime." Those were the defiant words of suspended Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, after the Senate voted to put her on trial for breaking budget laws. She has vowed to fight on during a Senate trial that could take up to six months

  • Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump has met with the nation's top elected Republican, House speaker Paul Ryan, in an attempt to unify the party behind his divisive White House campaign. Mr Trump failed to secure an endorsement but Mr Ryan told reporters it was "a first very encouraging meeting"

  • Pope Francis says he will set up a commission to look into women entering the Catholic clergy. During a question and answer session he promised to examine whether women could become deacons, one rank below priests

A new study has found warming of the Arctic by climate change could be responsible for a sub-species of red knot birds growing smaller in size and with shorter bills. The shrinking has led to a population drop because when the birds reach their winter feeding grounds in West Africa, they cannot reach the best food
