There's been another development in the AFP raids saga, and there's relief in sight for farmers | Good morning,
Here are the stories making news this morning: - Labor senator Stephen Conroy has formally claimed parliamentary privilege on documents seized from his Melbourne office and a staffer's home by the AFP last Thursday. The Senator wrote to the AFP Commissioner demanding the documents be sealed and delivered to the Senate. If the privilege claim has to be debated, it won't be able to happen until after the election
- Deputy PM Barnaby Joyce has announced an assistance package for dairy farmers affected by recent milk price cuts. The scheme will provide $550 million in concessional loans for farmers, who will be able to borrow up to $1 million or half of what they owe at a rate of 2.66 per cent
- The Government has defended its claim Labor has a "black hole" in its budget. Treasurer Scott Morrison has said Labor's funding gap is $67 billion, but the Opposition says that counts $19 billion in foreign aid spending it has already said it won't go ahead with. Confused? Our political editor Chris Uhlmann has done the maths for you
Here's what you need to know today: - Malcolm Turnbull has a number of media events in Melbourne. He's expected to speak to the press shortly before noon
- Bill Shorten is also in Melbourne. He'll be attending a morning tea before leaving for Darwin later today
- The regional leaders debate will be held in Goulburn at 7:30pm AEST tonight. The ABC's Chris Uhlmann will host the debate, which features Deputy PM Barnaby Joyce, Greens leader Richard Di Natale and Labor MP Joel Fitzgibbon
