ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • The Federal Government is expected to announce an assistance package for dairy farmers affected by the recent milk price cuts. The funding is likely to include concessional loans, a measure farmers have been critical of in the past

  • Bill Cosby has been ordered to stand trial on sexual assault charges dating back to 2004. More than 50 women have publicly alleged sexual abuse at the hands of 78-year-old Cosby, but the 2004 allegation is the only one to result in a criminal assault charge

  • The key suspect in the Bowraville murders case is set to be charged over the deaths of two out of three Aboriginal children who were killed more than 25 years ago. The man has already been tried separately for two of the murders but was acquitted

One of Australia's most powerful amateur rockets will be launched in June. Samantha Ridgway, a leading rocket enthusiast, will launch the Lucky 7 from the West Australian Wheatbelt town of Williams. It's expected to reach speeds of more than 1,200 kilometres an hour and altitudes of more than 4,500 metres.

Here's what's coming up:

  • 9:30am AEST: The inquest into the Lindt Cafe siege continues. NSW Assistant Police Commissioner Mark Jenkins is giving evidence

  • 10:00am AEST: The trial for four NSW police officers accused of lying about the fatal shooting of a mentally ill man continues in Sydney

  • 12:00pm AEST: Dairy farmers will rally in Queensland, Adelaide and Melbourne to call on retailers to put an end to the $1 milk price war
