Meagher's killer appeals sentence

The man convicted of raping and murdering Jill Meagher has lodged an appeal against his sentence.

Ms Meagher, 29, was brutally attacked in a laneway in the inner-north Melbourne suburb of Brunswick last year.

Adrian Ernest Bayley last month received a life sentence for her murder and was ordered to serve a minimum of 35 years behind bars.

But yesterday, Bayley lodged an appeal in the Victorian Supreme Court.

The court says Ms Meagher's family has been notified.
