"The number of dead will not be lower than 35," the president of the regional government, Alberto Nunez Feijoo, told local radio. A woman who was close to the site of the accident told the radio station that she heard a loud explosion and then watched the train come off the rails. A reporter on the scene for the Cadena Ser radio station said the site was strewn with bodies covered with blankets. Work on a $20 million iron ore mine proposal by Shree Minerals was halted by a Federal Court decision last week because the impact on the Tasmanian Devil was not properly considered. Mark Butler is meeting interested parties in Burnie today and expects to make a decision on the mine's future by the end of the week.
