Hunt for body continues as shark attack victim named

Dozens of emergency service personnel are continuing to search for a woman who has been taken by a shark on the New South Wales far south coast.

The woman, who police have named as Chris Armstrong, was swimming with five companions off Tathra wharf about 8:30am (AEDT) when she was taken by the shark.

Her companions returned to the beach and raised the alarm.

The New South Wales Ambulance Service says partial remains of a woman have been found, but police say it is too early to say if they are linked to the attack.

The beach has been closed and searchers say they will continue to look for Ms Armstrong's body until they are convinced there is no hope.

In a separate incident, police say a diver missing off the coast south of Perth may have been killed by a shark, after human remains were discovered with possible bites.

Why the coal industry is right to fear divestment

Divestment by Australia's Group of Eight universities would have little direct impact on the fossil fuel industry, but that doesn't mean it would be useless.

The stigmatisation triggered by such action would pose a far-reaching threat to fossil fuel companies and the vast energy value chain.

Negative consequences of stigma include cancellation of multibillion-dollar contracts or mergers. Stigma attached to merely one small area of a large company may threaten sales across the board.

RBA's Stevens backs Parkinson in calls for difficult fiscal reform

The Reserve Bank governor has backed the Treasury secretary's call for difficult fiscal and economic reforms.

Speaking at an American Chamber of Commerce lunch in Brisbane, Glenn Stevens said the path to stronger global economic growth was not via central bank money printing, nor spending or austerity by governments.

In the local context, Mr Stevens observed that Australia survived the mining boom without a massive inflation breakout and there are early signs that it might cope with the end of the resources construction boom without an economic slump.

However, he also warned that "it is far too soon to think about counting any chickens yet."
