Peru Six ordered to return to South America after appeal rejected

Six Australians accused of murdering a hotel doorman in Peru have been ordered to return to the country.

Jessica Vo, brothers Hugh and Tom Hanlon, Harrison Geier, Andrew Pilat, and Sam Smith are accused of killing Lino Rodriguez Vilchez while travelling in Peru last year.

Mr Rodriguez Vilchez's family claims the Australians pushed the 45-year-old from an apartment building after a dispute over a noise complaint.

The group's appeal has been rejected and they have been ordered to return to Peru to front court in August.

Kmart Australia's Bangladesh building checks started after collapse

Retail giant says it only started building safety checks in Bangladesh after the recent factory collapse that killed more than 1,000 garment workers.

SA education boss denies he knew of UK child abuse ring

The Education Department CEO in South Australia has denied he knew of a child-sex abuse ring operating at the time he was a public servant in the United Kingdom.

Keith Bartley was Oxfordshire's Director for Children, Young People and Families between 2003 and 2007.

During that time, a group of men in the area raped girls between 11 and 15 and beat and burnt them.

Mr Bartley said the first he heard of the case was last month and he was aware of attempts to attribute blame to him.

Antibiotic to fight drug-resistant bacteria shows promise

Antibiotics able to trick the bacteria that build drug immunity have shown promising results in laboratory testing.

Researchers at Adelaide University, working in collaboration with Monash University and Adelaide's Women's and Children's Hospital, have developed a way of stopping the growth of key proteins.

Professor Andrew Abell and his team have tackled deadly golden staph, but also recently turned their attention to tuberculosis.

He said getting the molecules into a human was at least five years away if the testing went to plan.
