ABC NewsMail - Afternoon Edition

Good afternoon. Here's what's happening now:

  • A teenager who suffered severe burns at a party in Toowoomba in 2013 is suing a mother for $11.8 million for failing to supervise the gathering. Paris Turkington suffered third-degree burns to her body and face when another partygoer threw accelerant on a fire

  • Labor's frontbench has been expanded to 32 people, but due to parliamentary rules, only 30 of them will receive a frontbencher's allowance. It means shadow assistant treasurer Andrew Leigh will take a pay cut while Senator Sam Dastyari will miss out on a pay rise

  • Donald Trump took aim at Hillary Clinton as he accepted the Republican nomination for president. He said his opponent's legacy as secretary of state was "death, destruction, terrorism and weakness", and that he would restore safety to America
