ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

It seems that X really does mark the spot. Research in the Astronomical Journal has found an enormous X-shaped structure made of stars lies at the centre of the Milky Way.

Can you believe it's been a fortnight since the federal election? Listen to ABC political reporters Matthew Doran and Anna Henderson as they talk halal snack packs, swimsuit competitions in the UN Secretary General race and the kind of/not really fresh-faced Ministry which will run the nation.

Here's what's coming up:

  • 7:35am AEST: Deputy Leader of The Nationals Fiona Nash will be on Radio National

  • 9:00am AEST: Day three of the Republican Party's convention will start in Ohio

  • 9:30am AEST: Assistant Treasurer Kelly O'Dwyer will speak at the Financial Services Council Leaders Summit. Shadow treasurer Chris Bowen will speak at 10.15am

  • 11:30am AEST: The NAB Quarterly Business Survey will be released
