ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • Police have ruled out any link to terrorism after a man set his car alight and drove it into a roller door at the Merrylands police station last night. The 61-year-old suffered serious burns and remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition

  • An unarmed black man, working as a behavioural therapist, says he was shot in the leg by Florida police while lying on the ground with his arms in the air, pleading with officers not to shoot. He was trying to help a patient with autism at the time

  • A French prosecutor says Nice truck attacker Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel had plotted the carnage for months and had help from five suspects who are now in custody

A new study has revealed details about the remarkable relationship between humans and wild birds in northern Mozambique. It shows not only do humans seek out the honeyguides to find the location of bees' nests, the birds actively seek out humans, ensuring both species benefit.

Here's what's coming up:

  • 9:30am AEST: The fourth and final day of the Republican convention begins in Cleveland, Ohio

  • 10:00am AEST: Papua New Guinea's parliament will meet to consider a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Peter O'Neill

  • 11:30am AEST: The winner of the $100,000 Basil Sellars art prize will be announced in Melbourne

  • 2:15pm AEST: Triple murderer Ian Jamieson is due to be sentenced after pleading guilty to killing three of his neighbours at a property near Wedderburn, central Victoria, in 2014
