ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • Three police officers have been killed and three others injured in a shooting in the US city of Baton Rouge. Officials say the suspect was shot dead at the scene. One witness said he saw what looked like gang members shooting at each other before police arrived, but authorities are also investigating the possibility that officers may have been targeted

  • PM Malcolm Turnbull will reveal his new ministry this afternoon, which is expected to include some new faces. The changes are prompted by the Nationals' increased representation in the Coalition party room and the loss of at least two junior ministers

  • The number of people arrested in Turkey over a failed military coup has now reached 6,000 and more arrests are expected. Local media is reporting the round-up includes dozens of senior military personnel and judges. Eight Turkish military officers who fled to Greece by helicopter have been charged with illegal entry and violating Greek airspace

Wondering what the deal is with the Republican National Convention? North America correspondent Michael Vincent explains the four-day event which will see a Cleveland basketball stadium transformed into a heavily guarded fortress to protect dignitaries and delegates from protesters.

Here's what's coming up:

  • 10:30am AEST: Former AFL player Nick Stevens is due to appeal his eight-month prison sentence for charges relating to domestic violence. The appeal is due to be heard in the Melbourne County Court

  • 11:00am AEST: US Vice-President Joe Biden will tour a Boeing factory in Port Melbourne. He will then fly to Sydney to attend a US-Australia business roundtable at the Sydney Opera House

  • 9:35pm AEST: Pauline Hanson, Nick Xenophon, Labor's Sam Dastyari, the Coalition's Simon Birmingham and Greens senator Larissa Waters will face off on Q&A
