17 dead as Morsi supporters protest coup

Thousands of supporters of ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi have taken to the streets, triggering violence that reportedly killed at least 17 people nationwide.

In Cairo, at least six people were killed as demonstrators tried to march on the headquarters of the Presidential Guard, where Mr Morsi is believed to be held.

Eyewitnesses say soldiers fired into the crowd, but the army says its troops only fired blank rounds and tear gas.
