ABC NewsMail - Afternoon Edition

Good afternoon. Here's what's happening now:

  • In central Italy, residents are trapped and buildings have been destroyed following a magnitude-6.2 earthquake, with the mayor of one town saying at least four people may have died

  • Marcus Stanford has been sentenced to one year and three months in jail for being an accessory after the fact to the murder of Leeton school teacher Stephanie Scott. His identical twin, Vincent, sexually assaulted and fatally stabbed Ms Scott at Leeton High School in NSW on Easter Sunday last year

  • A new survey of 10,000 people has found that migrants from New Zealand and South Sudan felt the most discrimination. And for New Zealanders, no access to welfare, student loans and jobs in the public service might be to blame

Twin brothers who busk in Sydney have found a winning tune. Violinists Vasiliy and Vladimir Shapkin have described the Game Of Thrones theme as the 'best money maker'. Take a listen for yourself.

Here's what's coming up:

  • 6:05pm AEST: Shadow treasurer Chris Bowen is due on Radio National's Drive program

  • 7:00pm AEST: Australia plays Sri Lanka in the second one-day cricket international in Colombo

  • 7:15pm AEST: US Vice-President Joe Biden will meet with Turkish PM Binali Yildirim in Ankara

  • 7:30pm AEST: FFA Cup round of 16 begins with Tim Cahill set to debut for Melbourne City
