Here's your preview of day 12 in Rio

Rio 2016
Rio 2016: Day 12 will see an Aussie compete for long jump gold
The Aussie Boomers will play to keep their Olympic dream alive and Brooke Stratton will jump for gold in the athletics competition.

Take a look at what is coming up on day 12 in Rio (all times AEST):

Athletics

The long jump final will feature an Australian for the first time since 2004.

Brooke Stratton leapt 6.56 metres in qualifying on day 11 and will look to go at least one better than Bronwyn Thompson 12 years ago, when she finished fourth in Athens.

The new Australian record holder will take the leap in the final starting at 10:15am.

Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt will also hit the track for his 200m semi-final at 11:08am as he continues his quest for the triple triple.

We will also see the final of the women's 200m and 100m hurdles at 11:30am and 11:55am respectively.

Basketball

The Boomers are the last of the Australian teams still alive in Rio.

After Australia fell short of the mark in the hockey, water polo and women's basketball, the Boomers are flying the flag and face a tough quarter-final match-up on day 12.

They face Lithuania in the last eight at midnight to see who will head into a semi-final showdown with Croatia or Serbia, who face off at 11:15am.

The other quarter-finals are Spain vs France at 3:30am and Team USA vs Argentina at 7:45am.

Golf

After Marcus Fraser's surprising fifth-place finish in the men's tournament, Australia's medal chances look much better in the women's competition.

World number 44 Su Oh will tee off at 11:14pm alongside Czech Klara Spilkova and Belgian Chloe Leurquin.

And 17th-ranked Minjee Lee starts at 11:36pm in a group with South Korea's Hee-young Yang and Sandra Gal of Germany.

Sailing

Day 11 gave Australia gold and silver in the sailing, so what can day 12 bring?

Mat Belcher and Will Ryan are effectively assured of at least a bronze medal in the 470 class.

They will take to the high seas for the medal race at 3:05am.

Other highlights:
  • Canoe sprint: Gold-medal hopes Ken Wallace and Lachlan Tame will hit the water for their K2 1,000m heat at 10:08pm. The final is Thursday night
  • BMX: The women and men have their seeding runs on day 12. Caroline Buchanan and Lauren Reynolds will ride at 2:30am, with Sam Willoughby, Anthony Dean and Bodi Turner going around at 3:34am
