Here's what's coming up on Day 3 in Rio
Australia's swimmers hope to get the golden run back on track and the women's rugby sevens team eyes the final.

Take a look at what is coming up on Day 3 of the Rio Olympics (all times AEST):

Women's rugby sevens

Australia's women are expected to make the gold-medal match on day three.

Their semi-final against Canada starts at 3:30am on Tuesday with the final scheduled for 8:00am. If they fall short in their semi, the bronze-medal match is on at 7:30am.

Swimming

The world-championship-winning couple of Mitch Larkin and Emily Seebohm will climb into the water for their respective 100m backstroke finals on day three.

After a slow semi-final, Seebohm will swim from lane one with compatriot Maddie Wilson in lane six in the final starting 11:30am on Tuesday.

Immediately after, Larkin, who qualified third-fastest in the men's semis, will start his final at 11:38am.

Aussies Bronte Barratt and Emma McKeon will hit the water in the 200m freestyle heats alongside US superstar Katie Ledecky, who is miles ahead of the competition. The heats are first up at 2:02am on Tuesday, with the semi-finals scheduled for 11:03am.

The men's 200m freestyle (11:21am) and women's 100m breaststroke (11:54am) are the other finals on day three, with no Australians making the cut.

Tennis

Australia's remaining tennis players in the singles draw take to the court on day three.

Samantha Stosur will face Japan's Misaki Doi in the second match on court one, after the US's Madison Keys and France's Kristina Mladenovic meet at midnight.

Centre-court action starts at 11:45pm with a star-studded clash between Czech Republic's Petra Kvitova and Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki.

Australian John Millman, who on day one became the first player to win an Olympic match 6-0, 6-0, meets Japanese world number seven Kei Nishikori in the fifth match on centre court.

Other highlights:
  • The Hockeyroos will look to get their first win on the board on day three when they face the United States at 11:00pm
  • Australia's canoe slalom gold medal hope Jessica Fox hits the water in the K1 heats at 2:10am on Tuesday and again at 4:00am for her second run
  • Australia's men's water polo team tries to rebound from its first-up loss to Brazil in a match against Hungary, starting at 2:00am at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre
